  21. I have talked to MWC a few times, and the reason they gave me for not
  22. continuing development for the ST compiler was that their compiler
  23. programmer for the ST left, and they were having a hard time finding
  24. a new one ( I assumed the difficulty was finding one who could do
  25. an ANSI-C upgrade, but accept little money up front and mostly royaltys,
  26. if I were the programmer and I was familiar with ST marketing, *I* would
  27. be very unmotivated about potential royalties from the sale of an ST
  28. product..)

  31. reality re: our Ataris and Tramiel-corp.

  47. Does anyone know of a company (preferably in canada) that manufactures a
  48. ''box'' that will allow someone to connect a SCSI hard drive to the ST, via
  49. the DMA port?   The reason I ask, is that I would like to buy a new computer
  50. is a couple of years.. as a result I will require a hard drive for it as well,
  51. the fact that the drive may be SCSI will facilitate this immensely and keep
  52. me from spending $$$ for a useless HD.  It would also be nice if this DMA2SCSI
  53. box will allow chaining of devices like MORE HD's and even tape backup units.
  54. (or is that inherent in the SCSI protocol?)

  73. Hello Stefan.  I would be glad to send the docs but I don't know how
  74. to reach you.  I'm talking to something called DreNet which interfaces
  75. with Internet which interfaces with Usenet which ...  In short, my
  76. mailer doesn't know anything about dmswwu1a.bitnet.

  78. In any event the docs should be appearing at panarthea soon (they did
  79. arrive didn't they Steve?).  Throughout I tried to reference both the
  80. German words that appear on the screen and English equivalents from
  81. the 1.0 release.  I rather like the screen the way it is now - adds a
  82. certain charm.

  84. At any rate, if you have problems with panarthea the way I have
  85. problems with bitnet, let me know and I will drop everything to get
  86. the docs to you.

  103.        1)The problem encountered is dialing out from within the prg itself,so
  104. is minit933 a stand alone terminal or does it have to be called from within a
  105. terminal prg.(such as Flash,Interlink,etc)?

  107.        2)If it is a stand alone prg,how is the dialing accomplished(apparently
  108. the docs were a bit on the lean side)?

  179. alerts. It makes .H files for 'C' and also makes hearder files for Pascal,
  180. Fortran,and modula2. It's about $30-$40. It's well worth it. The best I have
  181. ever seen. Your can create almost amything you want.. Made by Kuma the name
  182. of it is K-Resource. Check your local dealer.. Well, worth the price..

  227. I suspect that lots of computer users get their jollys making life
  228. rough for the people who develop, manufacture, and sell their toys.
  229. The head of our local user group was proud of the fact that the group
  230. was able to undersell our last local dealer on disks, and he advertised
  231. that other computer stores carried some items at better prices than the
  232. local Atari dealer -- who closed his doors earlier this week.  Gives one
  233. a sense of achievement, doesn't it?

  263. I am afraid everyone who has replied to the above article has failed to
  264. see the point I was making, whether or not this was because I worded it
  265. badly I do not know.

  267. The problem does not lie in the actual FTP'ing of the file to my atari
  268. the uuencoded file does fit on a single 3.5" disk, but if I was to
  269. decode the file on that disk it would create another 700Kbyte file,thus I
  270. would have to get 1.4 MBytes of data on the disk, slight problem there.

  272. The suggestion of uudecoding on the host then doing a binary transfer, is
  273. an improvement, however the file is 500Kbytes when decoded and to then
  274. dearchive that file would require a further say 400-500Kbyes available
  275. on the disk, same problem as before but slightly less.

  277. I have however managed to solve the problem by creating a very large RAM
  278. disk on a 1040ST then decodibng into the RAMdisk, ie. using it as a
  279. temporary store, 'til I can clear space on the disk.
